Recently, Vice President Ye Jun represented the China Environmental Protection Industry Association to attend the World Environment and Sustainable Development Conference. At the "Water Environment and Water Resources" parallel sub-forum, he delivered a keynote speech titled "Promoting High-Quality Development of the Economy and Society through High-Quality Development of the Industry".
This conference was held in Shanghai, organized by Tongji University and the Executive Committee of the Ecological and Green Integrated Development Demonstration Zone of the Yangtze River Delta. It was hosted by the Shanghai Branch of Bank of Communications, the Shanghai Branch of Bank of China, and the Shanghai Institute of Sustainable Development of Tongji University. More than 300 representatives from 30 countries and regions attended the conference. The conference warmly invited our association to participate and delivered a keynote speech on topics such as high-quality development of the environmental protection industry at the parallel sub-forum of "Water Environment and Water Resources". Ye Jun first expressed congratulations on the successful hosting of the forum on behalf of the China Environmental Protection Industry Association. He then delivered a report from three aspects: "The ecological and environmental protection industry is the foundation for environmental protection and an important support for building a green and low-carbon circular economy system. " "Water environment and water resource enterprises are an important part of the environmental protection industry, providing significant support for the in-depth implementation of pollution prevention and control efforts." "With the high-quality development of the industry, promote the high-quality development of economic and social transformation."
Ye Jin stated in the report that the ecological and environmental protection industry, as a strategic emerging industry, serves as the fundamental pillar for environmental protection and is an important support for building a green and low-carbon circular economy system. Especially, the water environment and water resources industry is an important part of the ecological and environmental protection industry. In recent years, it has achieved rapid development under the guidance of policies and the drive of technology, providing strong support for the battle against pollution and the improvement of water environment quality, and making significant contributions.
According to statistics from the China Environmental Protection Industry Association, in 2021, the total revenue of 4,973 water supply enterprises included in the statistics was 727.8 billion yuan, an increase of 8.0%. Among them, the revenue from environmental protection business was 410.8 billion yuan, an increase of 6.3%; the total operating profit was 66.45 billion yuan, an increase of 8.4%. From a regional perspective, water supply enterprises in the Yangtze River Economic Belt contributed about 50% of the industry's revenue and profits. The revenue and operating profit of water supply enterprises in the provinces along the Yangtze River increased by 9.0% and 9.6% respectively, which were higher than the industry average.
Closely revolving around the "14th Five-Year Plan for Ecological Environment Protection", efforts will be made to further unite all parties in areas such as pollution control, ecological protection, addressing climate change, jointly promoting carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion, and economic growth. A high-quality ecological environment will be guaranteed by a high-quality ecological protection industry, and a high-quality ecological environment will support high-quality development. This will contribute to the power of China's environmental industry in building a beautiful China and achieving modernization with harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
